Eleven MRES member utilities and one associate recognized for reliable electric service to their communities

Eleven public power utilities that are members of Missouri River Energy Services (MRES) and one associate have earned national recognition for achieving exceptional electric reliability in 2019. Certificates of Excellence in Reliability were awarded by the American Public Power Association (www.PublicPower.org), a trade organization that represents more than 2,000 not-for-profit, community-owned electric utilities.

WMMPA purchases Marshall, Minn., Wind Farm

The Western Minnesota Municipal Power Agency (WMMPA) on March 31, 2020, executed agreements to purchase the Marshall Wind Farm, comprised of nine 2.1 megawatt (MW) wind turbine generators located near Marshall. The project has a total generation capacity of 18.9 MW.

MRES and WMMPA Annual Meeting Updates

MRES has cancelled the in-person Annual Meetings of Missouri River Energy Services (MRES) and Western Minnesota Municipal Power Agency (WMMPA), scheduled for May 6-7, 2020 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

MRES CEO Message to Members

Missouri River Energy Services (MRES) is committed to protecting the health and safety of our employees, our members, and their communities. We know that each of our members has made that same commitment as well. Therefore, MRES has decided to continue to keep our Sioux Falls office closed through May 1, 2020. We hope to return to normal operations on May 4, 2020.

Careful strategic planning can help public power utilities address the challenges facing the utility in the future. Some of those challenges are technology and innovation, changing energy mix, increased customer expectations and an aging workforce.
