SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Missouri River Energy Services (MRES) awarded five $1,000 scholarships to high school seniors pursuing an education that might result in a career in the electric utility industry. MRES also awarded four $1,000 scholarships to graduating students who plan to enroll in a powerline/lineworker program.
Through the scholarship program, up to five $1,000 scholarships may be awarded to high school seniors who reside in MRES member communities.
The 2021 recipients of the full-time undergrad scholarships are:
- Joe Cremer of Pierre, South Dakota, whose family is a customer of Pierre Municipal Utilities and plans to attend South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in Rapid City, South Dakota.
- Devin Hemmelman of Pierre, South Dakota, whose family is a customer of Pierre Municipal Utilities and plans to attend Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana.
- Ian Ainomugisha of Brookings, South Dakota, whose family is a customer of Brookings Municipal Utilities and plans to attend Rice University in Houston, Texas.
- Kenzie Gronlund of Pierre, South Dakota, whose family is a customer of Pierre Municipal Utilities and plans to attend South Dakota State University in Brookings, South Dakota.
- Carter Amland of Madison, Minnesota, whose family is a customer of Madison Municipal Utilities and plans to attend South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in Rapid City, South Dakota.
These recipients who meet certain performance criteria each year are eligible to renew their MRES scholarships for up to three additional years.
The following recipients are pursuing a career in a powerline/lineworker program:
- Ethan Spronk of Hartley, Iowa, plans to attend Northwest Iowa Community College in Sheldon, Iowa.
- Daniel Schriever of Rock Rapids, Iowa, plans to attend Northwest Iowa Community College in Sheldon, Iowa.
- Casey Woodall of Brookings, South Dakota, plans to attend Mitchell Technical Institute in Mitchell, South Dakota.
- Bryson Whyte of Marshall, Minnesota, plans to attend Mitchell Technical Institute in Mitchell, South Dakota.
These recipients are eligible for the one-time $1,000 scholarship.
