Tom Heller, president and CEO of Missouri River Energy Services (MRES), has announced his retirement effective June 30, 2023.
Heller joined the organization in 1992 as its fourth CEO since 1965 when MRES officially began. Before that, he was general manager of Moorhead (Minnesota) Public Service and served on the MRES and Western Minnesota Municipal Power Agency boards of directors.
“The MRES board of directors accepted Heller’s resignation with regret,” said Board Chair Vernell Roberts of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. “Tom has done an outstanding job of leading the organization for the past 30 years, and the MRES members have benefited significantly from his expertise. He will be greatly missed.”
The MRES board hired MyCoff Fry Partners, a utility industry executive search firm, to help find Heller’s replacement. The new president and CEO is expected to start prior to the organization’s Annual Meeting in May 2023.
Additional information about Heller’s retirement and career in public power will be made available closer to his retirement date.
