BES issues large rebate to Watertown facility

Watertown (South Dakota) Municipal Utilities (WMU) recently presented the Prairie Lakes Ice Arena a rebate of over $51,000 through the Bright Energy Solutions® (BES) program. Located just west of I-29, the 91,000-square-foot facility opened its doors earlier this year. The $36.5 million project is owned and operated by the City of Watertown, and it was designed as a multi-use facility to expand recreational programming, such as hockey and figure skating, while offering flexible space for meeting rooms and community gatherings. It will take over for the Maas Ice Arena, which has been used since the late 1980s.

Over 65% of the total BES rebate was due to a custom incentive for the refrigeration systems installed to create and maintain the facility’s ice sheet. Other rebate amounts were for efficiency incentives tied to LED lighting, HVAC systems, variable frequency drives and high-efficiency hydronic pumps, and $50 for a very, very important piece of equipment — the ice maker in the snack bar!

Through the BES program, member utilities and their customers can access valuable rebates and incentives for energy-efficient upgrades. This initiative supports cost savings for utilities and promotes sustainability and environmental stewardship within the community.
